More Instant Pot Recipes
We’ve been using our instant pot a lot lately. Having a 1 year old in the house makes our days busier so quick, hands off meals are our go to. We use it to make soups, chili, big cuts of meat and this instant pot creamy chicken.
Some of our other instant pot favorites are:
- Instant Pot Chicken Marsala
- Instant Pot Bone Broth (we use this as a base for all our soups!)
- Keto Mac And Cheese (stove top and instant pot recipe included)
The instant pot won’t steer your wrong. You can even make easy to peel hard boiled eggs and yogurt in it! If you don’t have one, now is the time to grab yourself one.
Using Your Instant Pot
So many buttons. So many functions. I know using your instant pot can seem daunting, but once you use it once you’ll be hooked. It makes dinner time a breeze and you can use up all the ingredients that are about to go bad so there is never any waste!
The main functions we use are manual (high) pressure, saute and the crock pot option (we bought a separate lid for this). Don’t be scared. We promise it will be worth it!
Fill It And Forget it!
The beautiful thing about the instant pot is you can literally just toss in all the ingredients and forget about it. It will never steer your wrong. The environment that is created inside the pot when the pressure builds allows all the ingredients to marinade and meld so that you are left with tasty meat and veggies every single time!
Natural Release Vs. Instant Release
I didn’t learn the difference until I had been using my instant pot for a while. My impatience for food always led me to turn the valve to venting as soon as the timer was up, but this was a mistake.
Allowing the pressure inside the instant pot to release naturally on it’s own for at least 10 minutes will ensure that whatever meat is cooking up will remain tender. Manually releasing the valve can lead to a tough meat, and nobody wants that!
Instant Pot Creamy Chicken
If you’re looking for a dairy free version of this instant pot cream chicken you can swap out the butter, cream cheese and heavy cream and swap in coconut oil and canned coconut milk. It will be just as tasty and fatty. If you decide to make this recipe please let us know below how you like to serve yours up!
Instant Pot Creamy Chicken
What You Need:
Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs chicken breast, boneless skinless
- 1 tsp pink Himalayan salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
Instructions:
- Press Saute on Instant Pot and melt butter. Season chicken with salt and pepper, then place in pot and sear for 3-4 minutes on both sides.
- Press, Cancel, then add the remaining ingredients to the pot.
- Lock lid in place and make sure valve is set to “sealing.” Cook on Manual High for 5 minutes. Allow pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes and then release remaining pressure by moving the valve to “venting.”
- Press Cancel, then Saute. Remove lid and transfer chicken to a cutting board.
- Stir the creamy base and then taste, and season as desired. Add the chicken back to the pot and allow it to warm in the sauce. Serve chicken and cream sauce over zoodles, cauliflower rice or on its own.
- Best stored in an air tight container in the fridge up to 7 days.

I’ve never used the saute function on my instapot but you made it look so easy. I kept your video on while I put this together and it was really so simple. I didn’t get any burn message maybe because I had my steam valve the wrong way and was venting the first couple minutes. Then I switched it and it worked great. Maybe that’s the key? I don’t know but this was sooo good. Yummy sauce.

This was super easy and delicious. I browned on stovetop and deglazed with broth before pouring into instant pot. I took out my own cream sauce and had it over cauliflower rice then thickened the rest up for my non keto family and served it over mashed potatoes for them. It’s a no fuss keeper!

I’m thinking about making this tonight. Wondering if they are frozen should I change the cooking time.

Thanks, gonna try this with coconut milk. I think I would love it reduced and slightly thicker.

It tasted great but caused my Instant Pot to malfunction. I got a FOOD BURN error after searing the chicken & attempting to start the pressure cycle. I contacted them & they said when this happens, it causes the pot to not get up to pressure. Fortunately the chicken still cooked thoroughly and the sauce was amazing! They sent me this:
To avoid burning please note the following:
– Before cooking, spray the inside of the inner pot with cooking spray or add oil to your recipe (there was a lot of butter!)
– When cooking after sautéing, rinse the inner pot with cold water and remove any food particles. Dry before placing into the cooker base. (That defeats the purpose of cooking with the yummy browned bits.)
– When cooking with thick sauces or purees, we recommend adding an additional cup of a watery liquid to the inner pot. (There was already plenty of liquid, I don’t think I’d want more.)
– Add cream, sauces, or purees to the inner pot as the final ingredient, without mixing or stirring it with the other contents. (That would not work with this recipe.)
What do you think of their response? I disagree but am glad to know there’s nothing wrong with my pot.

We haven’t experienced this, but thank you for sharing these tips!

I sear my meats and veggies in a pan first – I know it defeats the purpose of the all in one pot thing but I got tired of getting the burn message. That way I can also scrape all the brown bits into the pot for more flavor. Then just proceed with the recipe from there

I sear meats in a pan prior to instant pot as well. Adds more dishes but it’s worth it in the end. Otherwise I love this recipe. Very tasty and easy. Keep up the good work.

The video does a good job describing this, but the written recipe doesn’t mention 2 things that I think make a difference:
1. Step one should indicate the temperature on which to saute (i.e., Hi)
2. Step two should indicate that you should stir the ingredients together when adding them to the pot.
