We’ve been making this White Hot Chocolate for months now and it is still our newest obsession. We had cacao butter in our fridge for about 5 months before we realized we could use it for more than just delicious fat bombs. We stopped eating fat bombs, but found our new love with this hot chocolate recipe. It’s perfect for everyone in the family and warms you right up on a cold winter night! Once you make it your usual dessert night cap will be replaced with this low carb liquid gold!
The Best Hot Chocolate Recipe!
What makes this the best recipe is the use of cacao butter instead of cocoa butter or chocolate! The use of cacao butter makes this recipe completely caffeine free and perfect for a post dinner, pre-bedtime night cap! Although I am not as sensitive to caffeine, Matt finds it difficult to drink anything caffeinated past 1 pm and have it not impact his sleep that night. So if you’re anything like Matt or just want to get in a good dose of fat and deliciousness before bed, this hot chocolate recipe is made for you!
We Always Prefer Homemade Hot Chocolate
This may not be your traditional hot chocolate using chocolate or cocoa powder, but it still has that homemade feel. And, in our opinion it tastes a whole lot better! It’s much higher in fat and has a buttery, and subtly sweet mouth feel. However, one thing to note is that you will want to add some sweetener since cacao butter is just a creamier fat. We like to go hard on the liquid stevia and even jazz it up with some nutmeg or cinnamon!
White Hot Chocolate
Winter or summer hot drinks are always on the menu. If you’re not a fan of hot chocolate, then you might enjoy our turmeric tea recipe! It’s another great option for upping your fat in a flavorful, healthy way. We like to drink it in the afternoon before dinner to curb our appetite if we have a lot of work to get done that day. Additionally, if you’re above the age of 21 and looking for a stronger night cap our keto irish coffee will do the trick. You can make yourself one of those and make some white hot chocolate for the kids!

This sounds amazing! Is cacao butter the same as cocoa butter?
Miranda (KetoConnect) says
I believe there is a slight difference in the manufacturing process, but cocoa butter should work the same!

I am interested in trying this but you guys have said in the past that collagen is not good or needed. Why the change? Is this a plug to sell it?
Miranda (KetoConnect) says
You can make the recipe without it – I’ve actually used a little protein powder in this recipe before when I didn’t have collagen. But here are Matt and Megha’s thoughts on collagen most recently: Keto Supplements They talk about collagen in #7.

Love this recipe, just delish! We only drink Bolthouse pea protein milk as it has more healthy fat, calcium and protein than the nut milks and we have a 2 year old. Highly recommend it. 1 gm carb for 1 cup. I will skip the heavy cream next time to lower the calories.
The drink came out so thick it wouldn’t pour into my mug. Also a little bit gritty from the collagen peptide powder. I used the bullet and I think next time I will use our Vitamix which will blend much better and I will add some water.
Two questions though. I haven’t found liquid Stevia so use 1 packet of Organic Stevia in the Raw. It says less than 1 gm carb but the app tracks it as 1 gm. Secondly, I would love to add cinnamon but I get conflicting messages on this spice. When I Google it, it comes up as 2 gm carb for 1 teaspoon and 6 gms for 1 tablespoon. Is this true?
Carb Manager app tracks the macros perfectly and calories are 368 without the heavy cream.
Awesome job, please keep them coming!

I’m dairy sensitive. Is there an alternative to HWC that I could use? Coconut cream?
Olivia Kendrick says
Yup! Coconut cream. If you actually refrigerate a can of coconut milk it will separate into coconut cream and coconut water. The coconut cream will be super thick and you can just use that and drain the water 🙂

I tried this tonight with a mixture of cashew milk and coconut milk powder and water with a half scoop of powdered stevia. The chocolate flavor was overwhelmed by the coconut flavor. The sweetness was just right though so I will try it again. Thanks for the inspiration!
