While bread (unless it’s our amazing keto bread!), pasta, and your favorite cereals are off limits on the keto diet, there are a few things that luckily get the green light: a juicy steak, a pound of crispy wings, and even an ice cold low carb beer!
If beer isn’t your favorite, there are countless keto alcohol options available:
- Spirits (rum, vodka, tequila, gin)
- Dry wine
- Seltzers (White Claw, Truly)
Once you’ve reviewed the alcohol guide and are ready for a beer, then keep reading for all the best low carb beer options.
Are Low Carb Beers Gluten Free?
Just because it’s a low calorie beer does not mean it is a gluten free beer. Technically according to keto rules gluten would not be keto friendly, however in small amounts we will allow it in our diet.
It’s rare but sometimes you can find beers without gluten and instead brewed with rice. Just check to make sure it is certified gluten free and there should be no issues.

Best Alcohol: Our Low Carb Beer Recommendations and More!
We always prefer to drink keto friendly wine or liquor when enjoying a night out or having a nice dinner. Some of our go-to options for wine are Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon, while some of our liquor go-to options are vodka and whiskey.
To put these beers to the test, we compared them to our favorite drink of choice – wine – using the metric what will “get us where we want to be.”
For Matthew, that was three glasses of wine, at 9 net carbs and for Megha it was two glasses of wine, at 6 net carbs.
We found the beers that give you the best bang for your buck are Busch Ice, Natural Light, Miller Lite and Michelob Ultra!
A higher percent, higher carb, but very workable one is Flying Dog Kerberos Tripel. If you enjoy and work other beers into your macros that we didn’t mention above, comment them below.

I watched your video of low carb beer and wanted to share some information. Warsteiner Beer has 3.4 to 4 carbs per beer the Oktoberfest 4 carb and Dunkel 3.5 carb are in my opinion amazing.

I highly recommend Lagunitas Daytime Beer if you are looking for a hoppy beer with low carbs. I am not a big fan of the light beers and have found this one to be the best pick for an IPA.

I usually love your stuff but this particular list feels woefully out of date. There are so many more low carb options out there in 2020 than there were even a year ago. Where is the Lagunitas Daytime? Dogfish Head Slightly Mighty? New ones like Oskar Blues One-y, Firestone Walker Flyjack, Blue Moon Light Sky, Shiner Ruby Red, Ballast Point Lager, etc. Etc. All of these are 5g carbs or under per can. There are others I’m not even remembering right now, and these are just the nationally available ones. There are so many more low carb beers that are regional.

Hello. Anyway you can do some research on low carb non-alcoholic beers? We quit drinking alcohol but still miss those hop flavors and bubbles lol! But we don’t miss being drunk.
Harry A. Sutton says
Michelob Ultra now offers an Amber variant, slightly higher at 3.2 carbs, but a fuller flavored beer than plain Ultra.
Ryan Smith says
I didn’t see it on the list but wanted to share that Corona’s Hard Seltzer’s are delicious and have 0 carbs, better than the Claw!
Al Muto says
You missed a great beer. Laguanitas Daytime 3carbs!

Here in Australia, we have a brewery making a 0 carb beer. Bighead Lager made by Burleigh Brewing. Surprisingly tasty but is full strength alcohol.

What about Dogfish Head Slightly Mighty and even Seaquench if we are including mid-range carb beers? Here in Delaware they are readily available but I think this craft beer company is nationwide or close to it!
Becky Robertson says
Do you know if there is a low carb Ginger Beer?
Jessica says
Reeds has a zero sugar one that is pretty tasty! Also Goslings has a diet ginger beer.
Melissa Daley says
Are you sure there isn’t a typo with the amount of carbs in Flying Dog? OMG. I’d love to enjoy a “real” beer!
Robyn May says
Seeing Two Hearted on this list brought a tear to my eye…in a good way. It is my absolute favorite beer! We live 45(ish) minutes from the Comstock (Kzoo) Bells Brewery, so Two Hearted is a mainstay around here. Thanks for this list!
Chrissy Bassano says

Here in South Africa I enjoy Castle Lite, but I’m confused with the label- says 2g total carbs for a 340ml but 6g sugar?? Help??
Cass (KetoConnect) says
That sounds skeptical! Sugar is a carb and that would mean 6g total carbs!
Jill says
What about Bud 55 Select?
Cass (KetoConnect) says
Are the carbs pretty low? It’s your own discretion! Whatever you can fit into your carb macros for the day.
sonja adcock says
thanks for the inf0 i drink alcohol free beer and have found one called “partake” that has only 2 carbs. It tastes really great – just hope the nutrient info is correct 🙂
Alain says
It says 3g carbs on the label of the Michelob Ultra. So is it really 2.6g net carbs? There’s no mention of fibers…
Cass (KetoConnect) says
They most likely round up on the packaging.
