Easy Avocado Pudding
Most of the time Matt and I write the recipes we’ve either created or like the most. This chocolate avocado pudding is one of Matt’s creations, but I’m writing the post. Why, you ask? Well, right off the bat Matt told me I wasn’t going to like this recipe, and normally, it’s not something I would ever want to eat, but guys, this recipe is a winner. I’m pleasantly surprised at how well the chocolate and avocado complement each other! It’s like the perfect harmony.
With how easy and fatty this recipe is there’s no way you can read this post and not walk straight into your kitchen to make it. Trust us, you’ll be in keto pudding heaven and have a new dessert to add to the books. Good bye mug cakes! Well, maybe not good bye, but rather move over mug cakes!

Hi Matt,
What do you think of using Isopure Protein (instead of cocoa)? If so; also 1/4 cup?
Thanjs

Oh man, that would be great, and it may give it a more pudding-like consistency. Give it a shot!
Melissa Russell says
I like to mix this into Black Cherry sugar free jello.
Leanne says
Wayyyyy too much salt. Maybe 1/8 tsp. I’ve tripled the other ingredients and it’s still way too salty. What a waste of ingredients
Diane says
As soon as my avacadoes ripen, I’ll be making this for sure!!!

I’m not sure if dates fit into keto because I haven’t started it yet, but I have made a vegan chocolate pudding very similar for years. I used a couple or 3 soaked dates for sweetener. So yummy!
Keto Connect (Shannon) says
Not traditionally as they are very sweet with fruit-based sugar.
Vicky says
This was gross and BITTER
Paula Evans says
I was fascinated by the concept. I did add ,2 tablespoons heavy cream and a reasonable glug of honey. Great for fixing chocolate craving.

These keto recipes are very hit or miss. This was a definite miss. Decided to follow the recipe exactly and I didn’t like the taste or the texture. Good concept, but turned into a waste of an avocado. I divided it up and tried different methods to make it edible, but nothing in my arsenal could make this something I’d want to eat.

So it’s truvia a good substitute for sugar? Or should I change it for stevia??

You guys are an inspiration! Thank you and keep up the good work.

First of all, nothing is bad with erythritol. Also I call into question the notion that aspartame is bad for you. It’s a dipeptide and a protein. Why would it have any health effects other than that of consuming protein. It’s literally just two amino acids. Some of the self proclaimed health gurus that go forum to forum serial posting that trendy buzz worthy items such as sweeteners are the devils lettuce is the reason so much confusion exists over the keto diet. Aaaaanyway rant over. I’m making the pudding right now and it’s turning out well. I’m using a beater to make sure it’s nice and creamy. I may even add a dollop of sour cream.

I will be making this, but I do think the amount of cocoa is a bit much, the one thing to keep in mind is that cocoa is hydrophobic, which means it doesn’t blend well with fluids and has to be forced to do so, it’s why so many people find problems with dryness of it, avocados vary greatly in the amount of moisture they contain. I live in Las Vegas, the air here sucks them a bit dryer than they would be in Chicago, where I’m originally from, for example.
I used to make coffee with a 1 tablespoon of unsweetened dark cocoa and cinnamon and half and half, it was a pain in the ass to get the cocoa to properly blend in. I would stand in front of my Keurig and stir it in with stevia as it slowly filled the cup. I’d have to keep stirring it while drinking. Sip sip, stir stir, sip sip, stir stir, if not it would collect on the bottom. I liked the fact that it added fiber to a cup of coffee and didn’t taste bad, but it was tough keeping it blended in.
I see the same problem here, so rather than add more cocoa, I may add another half of avocado use a bit less cocoa. The salt I don’t have a problem with, but otherwise I like the recipe, so please don’t take what I’m saying as anything but constructive criticism. 🙂

Coconut whipped cream is available at some stores or can be made to add to this recipe if you’re avoiding dairy.
Leslie says
Has anyone used store bought pureed avocado in this pudding ? I just found pureed avocado chunks at Walmart, I have never been a avocado fan and just the thought of the prep of an avocado , doesn’t sound good, so I thought I might try the store bought????
Keto Connect (Shannon) says
This should work, as long as it’s not flavored! They may add salt, so be cautioned
Vicki says
Awful. Followed the recipe exactly and was super bitter.
Christian says
Made this today for Thanksgiving! I’m the only one doing keto in my house so it’s been a busy day of cooking. I tried a little of this when it was done and it was awesome. Making some real whipped cream now to top it off and I’ll have a wicked desert tonight!
Cassandra says
Thanks so much for this recipe! I’ve been looking for a recipe to use my avocado’s because I can not eat them plain. I’ve tried all sorts of ways like salting them, cooking them in bacon fat and I just can’t get past the texture. This tasted excellent and a great treat at the end of the night while also getting my fat in. (I used powdered stevia instead and added a little heavy whipping cream and it was definitely easier to mix that way.) I made it again today and put it in the freezer so that later it will be like an ice cream type of treat. Yum!
Crystal says
I made this recipe last week and I really enjoyed it!
My kids thought it was too bitter (you could add more sweetener), but I liked it just the way it was. Would be wonderful with a Dolop of real whipped cream on top too!
I am doing the Ketogenic diet so I feel it probably has too many carbs for me to make on a regular basis, BUT will make again.
Tiffany says
Way too salty! ?
Susan barts says
Way too salty. 1/4 teaspoons may be too much. I added some whipping cream ~ 1/2 cup. Good
Marianne says
It’s so odd! Mine came out extremely bitter 🙁
