Matthew and I have started a new tradition in our household. Every day when we get home from work, we go to the gym, take a shower, and then make ourselves some Turmeric Tea.
It's something we look forward to everyday especially since it has made a positive impact on our lives. We've created this recipe because we think it's important to share fun, delicious recipes, but also recipes that have health benefits. It's important to have balance and this tea is the perfect addition!
Turmeric Tea Benefits
The benefits of turmeric tea work for everyone, keto and non-keto alike. Most importantly, the turmeric tea acts as an anti inflammatory. Illness or infection produces inflammation which in turn leads to insulin resistance and weight gain. Turmeric has also shown to improve cognitive function, lower heart disease, help with joint pain and improve mood.
Turmeric Tea and Black Pepper
This recipe can be made by anyone, at anytime of day. You can even jazz it up with heavy whipping cream, other herbs, or stevia. However, it's important to note that the black pepper in this recipe is essential.
Without use of the black pepper you are losing out on all the benefits of turmeric. The black pepper helps inhibit the breakdown of turmeric compounds in the liver, thus allowing it to remain in the body longer, potentially increasing its effects.
Turmeric Tea Side Effects
Turmeric tea is something that you may want to ease into. Start with a lower dosage and gradually increase it as your body adjusts. Look for some common turmeric side effects to help identify if you're taking too much or you have some kind of intolerance.
Some turmeric tea side effects:
- Nausea
- Gallbladder contractions
- Hypotension
Read about the side effects to make sure you're taking the proper dosage.
Turmeric Tea
We drink turmeric tea, not only for all the benefits, but because it helps prevent snacking. Something about drinking warm tea in the middle of the day excites me.
You don't even have to worry about the caffeine keeping you up all night because there isn't any! Other drink recipes that we highly recommend are Keto Coffee and our Keto Green Smoothie! Whether or not you like turmeric tea, we are sure you can find a variation drink that will be your mid-day go to!

I love this and it’s perfect for inflammation! But Everytime I make it the pepper and turmeric ends up gritty at the bottom like it didn’t dissolve. Is it supposed to be like that? I just want to make sure I get the full benefits 🙂

This was perfect, made it yesterday and I’m about to make it again today – tasted great and it was just enough to tie me over!

Can I substitute olive or peanut oil, coconut oil is solid below 77F, difficult to measure.
Sally Levins says
Tastes great – love you guys! My questions is do I have to drink the residual powder ( I used powered tumeric, ginger and cinnamon in my batch) to get the healthy benefits? Or does it “seep” into the tea when simmering.
I see some recipes call for straining.
Susie says
How much turmeric root should I substitute for the powder?
Olivia Kendrick says
If it is fresh, I would probably use less than what the powder calls for because it will be stronger.
Jessica says
Do you have to simmer for 10 mins? I’m thinking about trying this in the afternoon as a pick me up and I don’t have a stove at work. Can I just add boiling water to the other ingredients?
Olivia Kendrick says
Yes, you should simmer for 10 minutes
Vicki says
What about ghee have you tried to make a tea drink using ghee and turmeric ? Just getting started and getting really confused . So I use your cookbook and many recipes Mainly unsure which items can be substituted or when never can substitute
Cass says
Ghee and butter are interchangeable.
Barry Sookhoo says
Hi, can I use raw turmeric ?
Cass says
Yes that should work!

This tea was so good! It reminded me of the spice tea my mother used to make (I was too lazy to try to learn how she did it).
I ended up with two good cups so I drank one and put the rest in a jar to save for later. I didn’t use the cream but I added a drop of sucralose sweetener.

Can you use Unsweetned Soy Milk instead of water?
Olivia Kendrick says
You certainly can!

Just started a keto/low carb diet. So glad I found you on YouTube. Have been watching and rewatching so I know what I can eat and what products you recomend. Going to make your low carb bread. Have to have bread. Have made low carb waffles just so I have “bread”. Gave also just rolled my lunchmeat in cheese. Still need bread. Have organic turmeric. Going to make tea now. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to Matt and Megha for sharing this wonderful turmeric tea recipe.
I suffer from inflammation due to having Lupus among other ailments. Started the keto diet a few days ago, so will see how it goes.
Thanks against, love your videos and it’s nice to see a man in the kitchen that doesn’t mind being there… 😉

From what I understand, the benefit of curcumin in turmeric can only be achieved by releasing it on high heat in the presence of crushed black pepper and oil

Hi, my name is Gerard. New to KETO.You guys are the best. Please keep it going. There is a typo on your Keto turmeric tea recipe. The “the” is not spelled out in the sentence about drinking hot tea.

Thank you guys for all of your hard work! You make Keto so much fun! I have a quick question. Is 3 cups of water really one serving in the tea or is that for both of you?
Cass (KetoConnect) says
Just one!
